.: Forum *Results of research and/or tool designs - Elisabeth Dumont - Ilse Haesendonck - Marlies Klooster :.

In the first part of the workshop, we introduce the electronic@ tools. The electronic@ project is concerned with equality between women and men in jobs linked to ICTs (Information & communication technologies). Four tools (booklets and CD-ROM) were developed for the various groups involved in this process:
1."Opportunities & trades” for girls and women.
2."Studies & training" for vocational guidance experts and trainers.
3."Recruitment and job placement" for job centres, selection and placement offices.
4."Diversity, an added value " for employers.

Although the contents of the instruments are adapted to the specific character of the various groups, some missions form a thread through the series of tools: increase the awareness of an approach in terms of gender, raise the stereotypes and provide practical information and advice.
In the second part of the workshop, we will concentrate on examples of policy of equal opportunities in ICTs workplaces. Examples come from the second stage of the Electronic@ research project. This aspect consists of research on the developments of the ICTs functions and the consequences for men and women. Results are consigned in thirteen case studies and an analysis of various courses on the basis of three school profiles. That gave rise to a series of recommendations for strategies.

Marlies Klooster: I have study the sciences of the cinema and of television in the Utrecht university (with a year of exchange to the Trinity College of Dublin within the framework of Erasmus grant). After my studies, I came to Belgium, where I worked for two companies on Internet. Since July 2002, I have been working part-time as collaborator scientific in the centre of Equal Opportunities of the K.U.Leuven. Currently I work in the Electronic@ project, as well as a freelance journalist and text editor, inter alia for Divazine (www.divazine.be) and Ada-online.be (www.ada-online.be).

Ilse Haesendonck: I first studied Communication Sciences in the K.U.Leuven university (1996-2000), followed by further studies in Commercial Mastery of Language (2000-2001). Since first November 2001, I have been working as researcher in the Equal Opportunities Center of the K.U.Leuven. As part of my duties for the centre, I am currently researching for the Electronic@ project (July 2002-décembre 2003).

Elisabeth Dumont : Initially I studied Germanic philology in Liège and Edinburgh universities. I then went to the United States (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) for a Masters in Anglo-Saxon literature and cultural studies, while teaching French and rhetoric. I returned from there with an Internet culture which enabled me to take part into the launching of a start-up (proxis.com) in Belgium and to create its French subsidiary company. I then left everything to travel around the world. I was able then to observe concretely the consequences of the hierarchical division of our society in terms of gender which I had studied more theoretically during my studies. After a period with strip cartoon, I now work as a researcher in the EgiD centre (gender and diversity in management) at the Liège University where I collaborate in the project (Electronic@. I also do voluntary work on the same topics (women and new technologies) in a local cultural centre (Barricade) and took part in the creation of BEWISE (Belgian Women in Science and Technology).
