.: Forum * Digital education and cognitive processes - Cornelia Brunner :.

This workshop will focus on research done over the last 2 decades, mostly in the US, in which we have examined gender differences in how people feel about technology, what they want and expect from it and how it fits into their conceptions of the relationship between individuals and the world. I will introduce a conceptual frameworks for gender differences that goes beyond issues of knowledge, skill and access and focuses on an underlying relationship between natural and artificial objects, based on gender differences in interpretation and attitude toward the digital universe. I will show examples of work produced by young people, girls and boys, in a variety of projects that have grown out of the gender research, in which we tried to develop an more gender-neutral and a more feminine-friendly approach to technology.
Dr Brunner has been involved in the research, production, and teaching of education technology in a variety of subject areas for thirty years. In addition to conducting research projects about the relationship between learning, teaching, and technology, she has designed and implemented education materials incorporating technologies to support inquiry-based learning and teaching in science, social studies, media literacy, and the arts.
